Port takes its name from the city of Porto located at the head of the river Douro in Portugal. The success of port wine was born of adversity when England & France were at war in the 17th century.
The temperature of the port wine affects its tasting. Too high, the taste of alcohol will stand out & you will not be able to taste the aromas, too low, the wine will have no distinctive taste.
Port decanting has a bit of mythology surrounding it & most people seem to imagine it is difficult to do correctly. In reality all it really requires is a spare clean bottle or port decanter & a steady hand to pour.
