From the legendary 1840, Fonseca's first Vintage Port release, to the superb declared vintages of the last decade, the house has produced a succession of highly acclaimed wines even in the most adverse moments of history.
James Suckling, in his authoritative book on Vintage Port, put it as follows: 'The vintage Ports of Fonseca are perhaps the most consistently great of them all. Not only do they have a striking fleshiness and powerful richness when young, but they retain that youthfulness for decades.'
Limited edition wonderful miniature Port Gift set, presented in a wooden box. Ideal as an entry into different types of classic port.
1 x Tawny 5cl Tawny-red colour fading to brick on the rim. The seductive nose displays aromas of apricot and plum with mellow undertones of butterscotch and spice. On the palate, the rich jammy flavours are lifted on the finish by an attractive crisp acidity. Fonseca aged tawnies are bottled for immediate drinking. Tawny Port makes a delicious dessert wine, and combines particularly well with flavours of almonds, berry fruit or dark chocolate.
1 x Ruby 5cl Deep ruby colour. Fresh, vigorous and youthful nose, full of intense cherry and blackcurrant aromas. Full bodied on the palate, with solid but well integrated tannins, and a long rich fruity finish. Ruby port is a traditional style of port and Fonseca have been shipping Ruby since the company was founded over 150 years ago. Fonseca Ruby is bottled for immediate drinking. It is an excellent dessert wine, particularly with ripe, blue cheeses. It should be served at room temperature.
1 x White 5cl Rich, fragrant nose with aromas of mellow fruit and hints of honey and oak. Full body, velvety palate and long flavoursome finish. Fonseca White is traditionally served chilled as an aperitif. It can also be drunk - poured over ice in a glass, topped up with tonic and a leaf of fresh mint. Accompanied by salted almonds or olives, it is an excellent aperitif. Fonseca White Port is a blend of wines produced from white grapes grown mainly on the Upper slopes of the Douro Valley. Fonseca White Port is ready to drink immediately and does not need to be decanted. It should be served at room temperature or slightly cooler. It is a versatile port which may be served either as an aperitif or as a sweet dessert wine.
“Rich, structured and elegant, featuring luxuriantly spiced flavors of dark plum, chocolate and blackberry pie. The svelte finish is creamy, with plenty of minerality notes and a hint of pepper.” Kim Marchus, Wine Spectator July 2016
