Product Information

Single Harvest Ports are blended wines from a single year which have been aged in oak casks. They are fully mature and ready to drink when bottled. The long period of wood ageing gives them their characteristic amber colour, smooth velvety palate, warm mellow flavours and nose full of rich complex aromas. Single Harvest Ports are ready for immediate drinking and do not need to be decanted.

Although best known for its elegant and long lasting Vintage Ports, Taylor’s is also the leading producer of Aged Tawny Ports and holds one of the largest stocks of fine cask aged wine of any Port house. Taylor’s holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks and display the year of harvest on the label.

Taylor’s has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. The third in the series is the exceptional 1966 Single Harvest.

Tasting Notes

Broad amber rim, with olive highlights, around a mahogany gold core. Very fine complex nose with notes of orange flower and marmalade, a discreet vanilla oakiness and warm nutty notes of walnut, macadamia and marzipan, against a sumptuous background of molasses and butterscotch.

The palate is smooth and honeyed but lifted by a crisp acidity. "The luscious flavours of fig, damson and apricot confit persist into the long mellow finish. A beautifully balanced and finely constituted wine displaying all the nuanced and multi-layered character of long wood ageing.

How to Serve

Taylors Single Harvest 1966 needs no accompaniment but could be served with the rich, nutty characters of a Comté.

"This Port might have been made in the year England won the World Cup but it's still very much alive, unlike the country's chances of winning another global football title. It is a rich oxidatively made Port; high toned with incredible aromatic richness reminiscent of nuts, caramel and dried fruit. It is sweet on attack yet balanced and elegant on the palate. An intense nectar with a long, long finish that does several victory laps." Rebecca Gibb MW, March, 2016
